The current Oyster Perpetual range
The Oyster Perpetual is Rolex’s simplest current three-hand collection, but it is not a single-size entry model. In the 2026 catalog the family spans 28, 31, 34, 36 and 41 mm, with a domed bezel, time-only display, Oyster bracelet and 100-metre Oyster case. The range now extends beyond Oystersteel into selected 18 kt gold and yellow Rolesor configurations, so material must be confirmed for the exact reference.
| Size | Movement | Best starting point for |
|---|---|---|
| 28 mm | Calibre 2232 family | Most compact, jewelry-scale fit; compare with Lady-Datejust if a date matters. |
| 31 mm | Calibre 2232 | Compact modern everyday wear with strong dial variety. |
| 34 mm | Calibre 2232 | Understated middle ground between 31 and 36. |
| 36 mm | Calibre 3230 | Classic, broadly unisex proportion and the safest universal starting point. |
| 41 mm | Calibre 3230 | Largest dial area and strongest contemporary presence. |
28 vs. 31 vs. 34 vs. 36 vs. 41
Diameter is only the first part of fit. Dial color, bezel width, bracelet taper, wrist shape and visible dial area can make adjacent sizes feel more different than the numbers suggest. Pale or bright dials tend to appear larger; dark dials often look more contained.
| Priority | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Very compact or jewelry-forward | 28 mm | Smallest footprint and most refined scale. |
| Compact but visibly modern | 31 mm | More presence without losing a refined proportion. |
| Midsize and understated | 34 mm | Less visual spread than 36 but more dial than 31. |
| Classic and flexible | 36 mm | Works across casual, professional and dress settings. |
| Modern sport-watch presence | 41 mm | Largest footprint in the family. |
Do not buy solely from a wrist-circumference chart. Two wrists with the same measurement can have different shapes. Compare actual wrist shots, lug placement and a watch you already own.
Movements, references and generations
Current smaller Oyster Perpetual models use calibre 2232 with approximately 55 hours of power reserve. Current 36 and 41 mm models use calibre 3230 with approximately 70 hours. Both are automatic time-only movements with stop-seconds.
| Reference family | Size / identity | Buyer note |
|---|---|---|
| 276200 | 28 mm modern Oystersteel | Confirm dial, card date and exact configuration. |
| 277200 | 31 mm modern Oystersteel | Popular for contemporary color dials. |
| 124200 | 34 mm modern Oystersteel | Midsize modern reference with calibre 2232. |
| 126000 | 36 mm modern Oystersteel | Current 36 mm platform; dial availability materially affects price. |
| 134300 | 41 mm current Oystersteel generation | Successor to 124300. |
| 114300 | 39 mm discontinued | Important for buyers wanting a size between 36 and 41. |
Dials, scarcity and value
Dial selection drives more of the Oyster Perpetual market than complication in many steel examples. Bright lacquered colors, short-production variants and new releases can trade very differently from black, silver or blue. Buy the dial you will still enjoy after a launch premium fades.
- Confirm factory originality; refinished or swapped dials are not equivalent to the correct factory configuration.
- Compare year, card date, condition and completeness—not photographs alone.
- Separate asking price from realistic transaction value.
- Use the nickname or color to start a search, then verify the exact reference.
New, unworn and pre-owned checklist
| Confirm | Why |
|---|---|
| Exact reference and size | Prevents confusion across five current sizes and older 34/36/39 mm generations. |
| Factory dial and hands | Dial originality is central to value. |
| Card date and warranty | Important for modern comparison. |
| Bracelet links and Easylink | Complete sizing improves fit and resale. |
| Polish history | The smooth bezel and simple case reveal edge loss clearly. |
| Seller and payment verification | Simplicity does not eliminate counterfeit or transaction risk. |
Oyster Perpetual FAQs
Which size is best?
36 mm is the strongest general starting point. Choose 28 or 31 for a compact fit, 34 for subtle midsize proportions and 41 for the largest contemporary look.
Does it have a date?
No. It is a time-only collection. Compare Datejust or Lady-Datejust if a date is required.
Is it only made in steel?
No. The 2026 collection includes selected gold and yellow Rolesor executions in addition to Oystersteel.
What happened to Oyster Perpetual 39?
Reference 114300 was discontinued and remains a relevant pre-owned option between current 36 and 41 mm sizes.
Is it a good first Rolex?
Yes. The simple display, 100-metre case, automatic movement and broad sizing make it an excellent first Rolex when fit and dial premium are sensible.
Can Superlative Watch Co. source one?
Yes. Buyers may request an exact size, dial, reference, year, card date, condition or complete-set profile.
