Fit: 41 mm balance or 43 mm presence?
Its 41 mm case, lower total mass and narrower bracelet interface make it the safer starting point for a one-watch collection. Glidelock helps eliminate the false choice between a bracelet that is too loose and one that becomes tight during the day.
The two-millimeter diameter increase combines with greater case volume, more mass and a bracelet that is approximately one millimeter wider where it meets the case. That broader 22 mm stance visually supports the 43 mm case; the Submariner’s approximately 21 mm junction reinforces its more moderate proportions.

300 metres vs. 1,220 metres
Both are serious Rolex divers’ watches. The Sea-Dweller is not automatically the better ownership choice simply because its number is larger. Its advantage is specialized pressure engineering; the Submariner’s advantage is delivering more capability than nearly any civilian owner needs in a more moderate package.
Rolex pairs the Oyster case with a Triplock crown and a unidirectional 60-minute Cerachrom bezel. The 124060, 126610LN and 126613LN are each rated to 300 m / 1,000 ft.
The 126600 and 126603 are rated to 1,220 m / 4,000 ft. That deeper-rated architecture is the reason to accept additional scale and weight—not a status hierarchy over Submariner.
During saturation-diving decompression, the Sea-Dweller valve releases helium when pressure inside the case exceeds external pressure. Rolex describes it as an intrinsic feature, not a control the owner needs to operate.
Black vs. “Intense black”
Rolex identifies the current 124060, 126610LN and 126613LN dials simply as “Black.” It does not call their current finish “gloss black” in the specification reviewed.
Rolex identifies the 126600 and 126603 dials as “Intense black.” The 126600 carries red Sea-Dweller text; the 126603 uses a yellow hue echoing its yellow gold.
Buying Desk observation—gloss and visual float: under direct light, the Submariner can read as a conventional jet-black gloss surface, while the Sea-Dweller’s officially named Intense black often appears deeper and inkier. Against that darker presentation, the luminous hands and hour plots can seem to float beneath the crystal. “Gloss,” “jet black,” “inkier” and “floating” are editorial handling descriptions—not Rolex-published finish specifications—and the effect changes with lighting and viewing angle.
The watch is officially named Submariner. “No-Date” is the familiar collector and search nickname. Its three-o’clock marker, uninterrupted crystal and symmetrical display are the reasons to choose it.
126610LN, 126613LN, 126600 and 126603 use an instantaneous date with rapid setting and a Cyclops lens. Rolex says Sea-Dweller has displayed a date since 1967 and has used the Cyclops since its 2017 update.

Rolex lists the blue Parachrom hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers and bidirectional self-winding via Perpetual rotor for both calibre families. Do not buy the Sea-Dweller expecting a higher-grade movement than the Submariner Date: the current date models use the same calibre 3235.
Oyster, Oysterlock and Glidelock
Rolex specifies a three-piece solid-link Oyster bracelet for every reference compared here. Yellow Rolesor places yellow gold at the bezel, crown and center links, with Oystersteel at the middle case and outer links.
All five use the folding Oysterlock safety clasp intended to prevent accidental opening. Current official pages reviewed specify Glidelock, not a separate Fliplock extension, for these references.
Rolex publishes tool-free Glidelock for each. Its Sea-Dweller feature page specifies 10 notches of approximately 2 mm each; Submariner copy here avoids assigning that exact rack geometry without a reference-specific Rolex source.

Control comparison: in the documented examples, 126600 was 35.2 g heavier than 124060 and 39.0 g heavier than 126610LN. In the Yellow Rolesor controls, 126603 was 39.4 g heavier than 126613LN.
