The short answer: choose Medium if you want the cleaner, dressier Santos with no date and a compact fit; choose Large if you want a more architectural sports-watch presence and a date. Blue is the most contemporary, green the most changeable in different light, and the white-looking silvered opaline dial the most enduringly Cartier.

The decision that changes everything

Cartier Santos Medium vs. Large

Case width alone understates the difference. The Santos wears as a rounded square with an integrated bracelet, so its visual footprint is broader than a conventional round watch with the same stated width.

Refined proportion

Choose Medium when…

You want the Santos to sit closer to its dress-watch roots, prefer symmetry without a date window, or want the bracelet and bezel to read as a single piece of jewelry rather than a large sports-watch case.

  • 41.9 × 35.1 × 8.83 mm
  • No date aperture
  • Especially balanced on smaller-to-average wrists
  • Blue WSSA0063 · Green WSSA0061 · Silvered WSSA0029
Architectural presence

Choose Large when…

You want stronger wrist coverage, prefer a date, or expect the Santos to compete visually with contemporary integrated-bracelet sport watches while retaining Cartier's design language.

  • Approximately 47.5 × 39.8 × 9.38 mm
  • Date aperture
  • More dial area and greater bezel presence
  • Blue WSSA0030 · Green WSSA0062 · Silvered WSSA0018
FitWrist circumference is only a starting point. Wrist shape, bracelet sizing, how much case presence you prefer and whether you wear the watch loose or fitted all matter. When possible, compare Medium and Large on the same wrist before buying.

Color changes the character

Blue, green or white: which Santos dial?

The case and bracelet remain unmistakably Santos. The dial determines whether the watch feels modern, distinctive or classically Cartier.

Most contemporary

Blue

Blue creates the strongest contrast with the polished and brushed steel architecture. It is versatile with casual clothing and feels more overtly sport-luxury than the silvered dial.

Most light-responsive

Green

The graduated finish can look nearly black at the edge and far brighter under direct light. It is the choice for someone who wants a recognizable Santos with a less expected dial.

Most traditional

White / Silvered Opaline

This is the clearest expression of the Cartier code: black Roman numerals, blued sword hands and a bright dial that moves easily from tailoring to everyday wear.

Photographs, display brightness and ambient light can change how blue and green dials appear. Evaluate multiple images—and ideally the individual watch—rather than buying from one color rendering.

Santos de Cartier Titanium WSSA0089

WSSA0089 takes the Large Santos architecture into a lighter, more technical direction. The muted titanium surface reduces the visual flash of steel while preserving the exposed-screw design, silvered opaline dial and blue hands.

Cartier introduced this titanium configuration in 2025. It is not a 2026 launch. The reference uses the automatic 1847 MC, includes a date, and pairs its titanium bracelet with a second nubuck alligator strap through QuickSwitch.

Material precision: Cartier specifically identifies the case-back alloy as TiAlV6-4 / grade 5 on certain regional technical pages. We do not extend that grade claim to every titanium component without direct manufacturer confirmation.

The material progression

From steel to two-tone and gold

Steel emphasizes the Santos as an integrated-bracelet sport watch. Two-tone brings the bezel and Roman-numeral dial closer to Cartier jewelry. Yellow- and rose-gold cases bring the jewelry heritage forward; WGSA0029 adds the more declarative full-gold bracelet.

Each material reference links to its corresponding Superlative Watch Co. product page. Availability and price can change; price-on-request references remain available for direct inquiry through their product pages.

A disciplined final choice

How to choose your Santos in four decisions

01

Choose proportion first

Medium and Large feel meaningfully different. Resolve fit and date preference before deciding on color.

02

Choose dial character

Silvered is classic, blue contemporary, green distinctive. Judge blue and green across varied lighting.

03

Choose material honestly

Steel is the most versatile; two-tone is warmer; titanium is quieter; gold is intentionally declarative.

04

Verify the exact set

Confirm reference, condition, bracelet links, second strap, deployant, box, papers and warranty-card date in writing.

Cartier Santos FAQ

What is the main difference between the Cartier Santos Medium and Large?
The Medium measures 41.9 × 35.1 mm, is 8.83 mm thick and has no date. The Large is approximately 47.5 × 39.8 mm, 9.38 mm thick and includes a date. Both use the automatic Cartier 1847 MC in the core references compared here.
Does the Cartier Santos wear larger than its stated width?
Often, yes. Its rounded-square case and integrated bracelet create more visual footprint than a conventional round watch with the same width. Wrist shape and preferred bracelet fit are as important as circumference.
Which Santos dial is most versatile: blue, green or white?
The silvered opaline dial—often called white—is the most traditional and easiest to dress up or down. Blue is the most contemporary. Green is the most visually changeable and distinctive.
Do Medium Cartier Santos watches have a date?
The Medium WSSA0063, WSSA0061 and WSSA0029 references compared here do not have a date. The Large steel WSSA0030, WSSA0062 and WSSA0018 references do.
What is the power reserve of the Cartier 1847 MC in these watches?
Cartier's current technical pages specify a 40-hour power reserve for the 1847 MC Santos references covered here. Older or imported product copy may show 42 hours; this guide uses the current published manufacturer specification.
Are Cartier Santos bracelets and straps interchangeable?
Many current Santos de Cartier references use QuickSwitch for bracelet or strap changes, and steel bracelets commonly use SmartLink for sizing. The exact included second strap, clasp and accessories should be verified for the individual watch rather than assumed from a model-family description.
Is WSSA0089 a 2026 Cartier release?
No. Cartier introduced the titanium Santos de Cartier Large WSSA0089 in 2025. A 2026 warranty card or merchant listing year would describe the individual watch or sale context, not the model's launch year.
Is Large blue WSSA0030 the same watch as WSSA0071?
No. WSSA0030 and WSSA0071 are distinct references. Our direct Large blue inventory link is WSSA0030; it should not be silently relabeled as the current graduated-blue WSSA0071.
Can Superlative Watch Co. source a Santos reference that is not listed?
Yes. Send the exact reference, size, dial, material, condition, target year or card date, set requirements, budget and timing through our Source a Watch page. Availability and terms are confirmed for the individual candidate.
