Breitling Manufacture Calibre Guide
Breitling's calibre number tells you what the movement is designed to do, but it does not by itself determine which watch is best, most valuable or easiest to own.
Use this guide to separate automatic and hand-wound chronographs, GMT, split-seconds, perpetual-calendar, tourbillon, full-calendar and three-hand manufacture movements from Breitling's partner-calibre references.
What “Breitling Manufacture Calibre” does and does not mean
“Manufacture” identifies a movement family that Breitling classifies within its manufacture-mechanical program. The useful buying questions remain concrete: Is the movement automatic or hand-wound? What does it display? How long is the stated reserve? Which controls and correctors must work? What service history follows the individual watch?
Movement origin is not a universal quality ranking. A simpler partner calibre can be appropriate for a durable daily watch, while a manufacture perpetual calendar or tourbillon introduces greater complexity and a different service commitment. Case construction, water resistance, condition, warranty status and purchase terms remain independent facts.
The B01-to-B35 clue is useful but limited
Breitling's official warranty guidance says that when the second letter of the model reference is B and the next two digits are between 01 and 35, the watch has a Breitling Manufacture mechanical movement. For example, the “B01” sequence inside a qualifying full model reference can identify the manufacture-movement category used for warranty guidance.
This clue does not authenticate the physical watch. A plausible reference can be copied, a caseback can be altered and components can be mismatched. Verify the complete reference, individual serial, dial, case, movement and documentation together, then use Breitling's formal service route when physical authentication is required.
Model reference
Identifies a watch configuration or model family; multiple physical watches can share it.
Individual serial
Identifies one watch in Breitling's numbering system and must agree with its records and physical construction.
Calibre code
Describes the movement family and function; it is not a substitute for the full watch reference.
B01 and its related functions
B01 is the central automatic manufacture chronograph used across current Navitimer, Chronomat, Avenger, Premier, Superocean Heritage and Top Time references. Current catalog examples specify approximately 70 hours of power reserve. The watch surrounding B01 can still differ materially in water resistance, thickness, dial layout, bezel, bracelet and intended use.
Related manufacture codes adapt the chronograph platform or serve a distinct complication. Do not assume that a higher number is newer, better or more complicated in a linear hierarchy.
| Calibre | Verified function | Verified reserve where stated | Buyer implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| B01 | Automatic chronograph | Approx. 70 hours | Core integrated chronograph; test start, stop and reset. |
| B02 | Hand-wound chronograph with 24-hour display | Check exact reference | Manual winding and a full-day dial require a different reading habit. |
| B03 | Split-seconds chronograph | Check exact reference | Adds a second chronograph hand and more controls to inspect. |
| B04 | Automatic chronograph GMT | Approx. 70 hours in current Super AVI examples | Test chronograph, GMT setting and date together. |
| B05 | Worldtime chronograph | Check exact reference | City indication and timezone-setting behavior must be verified. |
| B09 | Hand-wound chronograph | Approx. 70 hours in current Premier and AVI examples | Manual interaction and reference-specific period construction. |
| B12 | Chronograph with 24-hour display | Check exact reference | Verify the full-dial format rather than assuming a conventional 12-hour display. |
| B15 | Hand-wound split-seconds chronograph | Approx. 70 hours | Manual winding plus split-seconds function increases inspection scope. |
B31 prioritizes time, date and reserve
B31 is Breitling's manufacture three-hand automatic. Current Chronomat, Superocean Heritage and Top Time B31 references pair time and date with approximately 78 hours of reserve. It is not a chronograph with parts removed; it is a separate buying proposition for someone who wants manufacture movement architecture without chronograph registers or pushers.
Compare the surrounding watches rather than treating every B31 as equivalent. The Chronomat B31 40, Superocean Heritage B31 and Top Time B31 differ in case, bezel, bracelet or strap, water rating, thickness and design intent. On a pre-owned watch, test winding, date setting, date change, reserve and timekeeping.
B19, B21 and B25 are not interchangeable high complications
Three current specialist families illustrate why the exact function matters more than the word “manufacture.” B19 combines an automatic chronograph, perpetual calendar and moon phase with approximately 96 hours of reserve. B21 combines an automatic chronograph and tourbillon with approximately 55 hours. B25 is a self-winding full-calendar chronograph showing day, date, month and moon phase with approximately 48 hours.
B19 perpetual chronograph
Calendar architecture is designed to account for month lengths and leap-year cycles when kept running and correctly set.
B21 tourbillon chronograph
A tourbillon and chronograph create a specialist ownership and service proposition, not merely a decorative upgrade.
B25 full-calendar chronograph
Day, date, month and moon phase require corrector and setting checks; full calendar is not the same as perpetual calendar.
Never operate an unfamiliar calendar corrector without the correct manual and the movement in a safe setting position. A calendar that appears misaligned may be incorrectly set, mechanically compromised or both.
Partner calibres are selected by purpose, not automatically second class
The verified catalog also includes calibre families 10, 13, 17, 19, 23, 24, 25, 32, 41, 77 and 82. They support three-hand automatics, chronographs, GMT, quartz and SuperQuartz applications across the catalog. Their presence should be described accurately rather than hidden behind an “in-house” label.
- Match function first: a simple automatic, GMT or SuperQuartz instrument may be the more useful watch.
- Inspect the individual movement: timekeeping, reserve, calendar, chronograph and setting behavior matter more than category rhetoric.
- Check service access: confirm that qualified support and parts are available for the exact calibre and generation.
- Price the whole watch: case, bracelet, condition, provenance and transaction protections remain part of value.
Warranty category does not replace condition or service history
Breitling's warranty page uses the reference-number clue to distinguish manufacture mechanical movements, but actual warranty coverage depends on the official terms, dates, registration and exclusions applicable to the individual watch. Do not infer active coverage from a calibre code.
For pre-owned purchases, request dated service documentation identifying the work performed. A B01 chronograph should reset cleanly; B31 should set and change date correctly; B19 and B25 calendar indications should be tested under proper operating instructions; B21 deserves a specialist service review. Water resistance belongs to the case and seals, not the movement name.
Choose the function you will use and the complexity you will maintain
Begin with function, then compare the exact watch around the movement. The same B01 can appear in a 30 m Navitimer, a 200 m Chronomat or a 300 m Avenger. Conversely, two watches from the same family can use movements with very different functions and reserves.
- Choose time/date, chronograph, GMT, split-seconds, worldtime, full calendar, perpetual calendar or tourbillon.
- Decide whether automatic winding or a hand-wound ritual fits your routine.
- Confirm reserve, display and controls on the exact reference.
- Review service history, warranty documents and current mechanical performance.
- Compare size, water resistance, bracelet or strap and condition before price.

Breitling manufacture-calibre FAQs
What is Breitling Calibre B01?
B01 is Breitling's core automatic manufacture chronograph. Current catalog examples specify approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
What is Breitling Calibre B31?
B31 is a manufacture three-hand automatic with date and approximately 78 hours of reserve in current references.
Is B25 a perpetual calendar?
No. B25 is a full-calendar chronograph showing day, date, month and moon phase, with approximately 48 hours of reserve. B19 is the current perpetual-calendar chronograph family.
Does a B in the model reference always prove a manufacture movement?
Breitling says the second letter B followed by 01 through 35 identifies a manufacture mechanical movement in its warranty guidance. The complete sequence and exact reference must be read correctly.
Does the manufacture-reference clue authenticate a watch?
No. It is a model-reference clue, not authentication of the physical watch, serial, dial, case or movement.
Are partner calibres inferior to Breitling manufacture calibres?
No automatic conclusion is justified. They serve different functions and should be judged by specification, condition, serviceability and the complete watch.
Which Breitling calibre has the longest verified reserve in this guide?
Among the specialist current families compared here, B19 is specified at approximately 96 hours. Exact reference data should still be checked.
