Breitling Size, Weight and Wrist-Fit Guide

Diameter starts the fit conversation; thickness, lug geometry, bezel, dial opening, bracelet or strap and exact-configuration weight finish it.

Every number below belongs to a named full reference verified in Breitling's official US catalog on July 27, 2026. No weight is transferred from one attachment or neighboring reference to another.

Diameter is incompleteTwo watches with the same diameter can differ in thickness, dial scale, lugs and balance.
Weight is configuration-specificBracelet, strap, clasp and sizing change total mass.
Published means publishedIf Breitling did not publish an exact-configuration figure, this guide does not estimate it.

Read more than diameter

The measurement stack that determines wrist presence

Case diameter describes width across the watch, but not the full footprint. Thickness affects cuff clearance and center of gravity. Lug width helps describe attachment scale, while lug-to-lug span and lug curvature determine whether the case follows or overhangs the wrist. Bezel width and dial opening change visual size even when the case diameter is identical.

Physical footprint

Diameter, lug span, curvature and thickness determine how much wrist the case occupies.

Visual footprint

A broad open dial can appear larger; a dense slide rule or wide bezel can change perceived scale.

Dynamic balance

Bracelet articulation, strap stiffness, clasp and center of gravity determine whether the watch stays planted.

Wrist circumference alone cannot predict comfort. Two wrists with equal circumference can have different top-surface width and shape. Measurements narrow the shortlist; an on-wrist test resolves it.

One design, three B01 sizes

Navitimer B01 41, 43 and 46 mm

The current steel-on-seven-row-bracelet B01 examples keep thickness relatively close while diameter and lug width increase. The slide rule and detailed dial affect visual presence, so the jump from 41 to 46 mm is more than a numeric difference.

Current Navitimer B01 black-dial bracelet references verified July 27, 2026.
Exact reference Diameter Thickness Verified lug width Exact attachment
AB0139211B1A1 41 mm 13.60 mm 22 mm Polished/brushed steel seven-row bracelet
AB0138211B1A1 43 mm 13.69 mm 22 mm Polished/brushed steel seven-row bracelet
AB0137211B1A1 46 mm 13.95 mm 24 mm Polished/brushed steel seven-row bracelet

The 41 and 43 share a verified 22 mm lug width in these configurations; the 46 increases to 24 mm. That broader attachment reinforces the larger case visually and physically. Do not apply these figures to a different Navitimer generation without checking its full reference.

Different functions, different profiles

Chronomat B31 40, B01 42 and Super Chronomat 44

The Chronomat comparison changes both size and movement function. The B31 Automatic 40 is a relatively slim time-and-date watch. The B01 42 adds chronograph pushers and thickness. Super Chronomat B01 44 increases diameter and height again, while the selected reference uses a Rouleaux-style rubber strap rather than the steel bracelet.

Current exact references verified July 27, 2026; weight is intentionally omitted where not published for the exact configuration.
Exact reference Configuration Diameter Thickness Attachment
AB3114101C1A1 Chronomat B31 Automatic 40 40 mm 10.99 mm Polished/brushed steel Rouleaux bracelet
AB0158101C1A1 Chronomat B01 Chronograph 42 42 mm 13.77 mm Polished/brushed steel Rouleaux bracelet
AB0136251B2S1 Super Chronomat B01 44 44 mm 14.45 mm Black Rouleaux rubber strap

The B31 is not merely a smaller B01. Its cleaner dial, lack of pushers and lower profile affect fit. The 44 mm rubber configuration cannot supply a valid bracelet weight, and a neighboring bracelet reference cannot be substituted.

A controlled size ladder

Superocean Automatic 42, 44 and 46 mm

These three selected steel-bracelet references create a useful like-for-like comparison. Diameter increases by two millimeters at each step, while thickness rises modestly. Lug width remains 22 mm at 42 and 44, then increases to 24 mm at 46.

Current Superocean Automatic steel-bracelet references verified July 27, 2026.
Exact reference Diameter Thickness Verified lug width Exact attachment
A17375211B1A1 42 mm 12.56 mm 22 mm Polished/brushed steel three-row bracelet
A17376211B1A1 44 mm 12.62 mm 22 mm Polished/brushed steel three-row bracelet
A17378211B1A1 46 mm 13.22 mm 24 mm Polished/brushed steel three-row bracelet

The 46 mm Superocean in this table is not the titanium 46 mm Super Diver. Material, case architecture and exact attachment change the fit and mass. Keep those references separate.

Open dial versus compact profile

Superocean Heritage B31 42 and Top Time B31 38

The Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 42 reference AB3111241B1A1 measures 42 × 12.03 mm on polished steel mesh. Its open dial and narrow visual framing can make it read differently from the more tool-oriented 42 mm Superocean.

The Top Time B31 strap reference AB3113281A1X1 measures 38 × 10.31 mm. Breitling published an exact total weight of 65.84 g and a watch-head weight of 54 g for that calfskin-leather configuration. Those figures do not apply to the bracelet reference AB3113281A1A1 or to a different buckle, strap or sizing arrangement.

Exact-configuration rule: a published strap weight is not a bracelet weight.

Why a Breitling “model weight” can be misleading

A headline model can contain several full references. Steel, titanium, ceramic, gold and Breitlight cases differ. Steel bracelet, titanium bracelet, rubber, calfskin and alligator attachments differ. Bracelet link count, clasp and strap length also change the watch as worn.

  • Name the full reference: the head reference alone may not identify the attachment.
  • Name the attachment: bracelet, strap, buckle and material belong with the weight.
  • Separate total from head weight: they answer different fit questions.
  • Preserve missing data: write “not published for this exact configuration” instead of estimating.
  • Recheck after changes: replacing bracelet with rubber creates a new wearing configuration.
A weight from Breitling's website can be exact and still be wrong for another visually similar watch if the final reference, attachment or sizing differs.
Fit without generic wrist rules

A repeatable on-wrist decision

  1. Measure the flat top width of the wrist as well as circumference.
  2. Compare case diameter, thickness and verified lug width for the exact reference.
  3. Check whether the lugs follow the wrist without visible overhang.
  4. Size the bracelet or strap so the case remains centered without constriction.
  5. Move the wrist through typing, driving and cuff-wearing positions.
  6. Judge the watch after several minutes, not only from a straight-on photograph.

For a low cuff

Favor lower thickness and a stable attachment; B31 38 or 40 examples are materially slimmer than large B01 chronographs.

For water use

Check clasp security, crown clearance and pressure condition in addition to comfort.

For a large chronograph

Make sure case height and pusher contact remain comfortable when the wrist bends.

Move from dimensions to a shortlist

Compare within a family before crossing families

A within-family comparison controls more variables. First choose Navitimer, Chronomat, Superocean, Heritage or Top Time by purpose and design. Then compare its size ladder. Only after that should you compare similarly sized watches from different families, because their bezels, dials and attachments can create different visual and physical results.

Frequently asked questions

Breitling size, weight and fit FAQs

What is the best Breitling size for my wrist?

There is no reliable circumference-only answer. Compare exact diameter, thickness, lug geometry, attachment and wrist top width, then try the watch.

Does a 43 mm Navitimer wear like a 43 mm dive watch?

Not necessarily. Dial opening, slide rule, bezel, lugs, thickness and bracelet construction change visual and physical fit.

Can I use a bracelet model's weight for the same watch on leather?

No. Weight is exact-configuration data and changes with attachment, clasp and sizing.

What does the Top Time B31 AB3113281A1X1 weigh?

Breitling published 65.84 g total and 54 g for the watch head for that exact calfskin-strap reference. The figure does not transfer to the bracelet reference.

Is the Chronomat B31 40 just a smaller B01 42?

No. It also has a different time-and-date movement, cleaner dial and 10.99 mm profile versus 13.77 mm for the selected B01 chronograph.

Do the Superocean 42 and 44 have the same lug width?

The exact selected steel-bracelet references both use a verified 22 mm lug width. The selected 46 mm increases to 24 mm.

What should the guide show when exact weight is unavailable?

It should say that weight was not published for the exact configuration, not estimate or borrow a neighboring reference's figure.
