Premier is Breitling's dress-oriented family, but it ranges far beyond simple dress watches into hand-wound and automatic chronographs, calendars, split-seconds and tourbillons.
Choose it when case finishing, dial detail and traditional chronograph design matter more than a rotating bezel or overt tool-watch styling.
Why Premier is Breitling's elegant branch
Breitling introduced Premier in 1943 as a move from purely professional chronographs toward refined, style-led watches. Steel and gold cases paired technical chronograph expertise with more formal dials and finishing.
The current family preserves that premise: serious movements and complications in a more classical visual language than Navitimer, Chronomat or Avenger.
From Lady Premier to B21 tourbillon
The verified range includes Lady Premier 32 and Automatic 36, B09 Chronograph 40, B01 Chronograph 42, B15 Duograph 42, B19 and B25 Datora 42, and B21 Chronograph Tourbillon 42.
Smaller models are not miniature versions of the complications. They use different movements and functions. Forty-two millimeters contains the broadest complication range.
Movement architecture changes ownership
B01 is the core automatic chronograph. B09 is hand-wound and creates a more deliberate interaction. B15 adds split-seconds capability. B19 and B25 support calendar displays, while B21 combines chronograph and tourbillon architecture.
High complications require more careful setting, service history and ownership budgeting. “Manufacture” should describe the architecture accurately, not erase the specialist relationships Breitling states for certain calibres.
Slim automatic, chronograph or calendar
The selected Lady Premier Automatic 36 is 9.9 mm thick. The selected B01 Chronograph 42 is 13.6 mm. The B25 Datora 42 reaches 15.35 mm because its dial and movement combine chronograph, day, date, month and moon phase.
Complication-dense dials can appear visually smaller, while polished bezels can enlarge perceived scale. Compare the side profile as carefully as the diameter.
Dressier styling with useful versatility
The verified current Premier records, including the featured B01, Datora and Lady Premier, are rated to 100 m. A pre-owned watch still needs a pressure test, and leather straps should be protected from repeated immersion.
Straps, bracelets and factory configuration
Premier appears in steel, red gold, white gold and platinum. Leather reinforces the traditional character; steel bracelets make selected models more substantial. Verify hallmarks, case material and factory gem setting by full reference.
Inspect polished bezel edges, lug geometry, pushers, crystal coating and attachment correctness. Heavy polishing can reduce the definition that gives an elegant case its shape.
Test every indication before buying
Test start, stop and reset on any chronograph. On Datora, verify day, date, month, moon phase and each corrector. Improper setting can cause apparent errors, so use the correct instructions rather than forcing a mechanism.
Seek service records for split-seconds, calendar and tourbillon references. High complication should increase diligence, not encourage assumptions of authenticity or condition.
